Welcome to Debtors Anonymous
Debtors Anonymous offers hope for people whose use of unsecured debt causes problems and suffering. We come to learn that compulsive debting is a spiritual problem with a spiritual solution, and we find relief by working the D.A. recovery program based on the Twelve Step principles.
The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop incurring unsecured debt. Even if members are not in debt, they are welcome in D.A. Our Fellowship is supported solely through contributions made by members; there are no dues or fees.
Debtors Anonymous is not affiliated with any financial, legal, political or religious entities, and we avoid controversy by not discussing outside issues. By sharing our experience, strength, and hope and by carrying the message to those who still suffer, we find joy, clarity and serenity as we recover together.
The European Regional Intergroup (ERI)
Together we can do what none of us can do separately. This is the simple fellowship principle underlying our ERI. The primary purpose of any DA group is to carry the message of recovery to the still-suffering debtor. Sometimes a DA group operating by itself cannot do this effectively. We are here to connect and support activities which are so important in carrying the message. We particularly welcome new or struggling groups who wish for fellowship in service. We aim to provide opportunities for cooperation in fellowship projects beyond the capacity of any one group.
One of our visions is to serve as a clearing-house for information for groups, lone members, and trusted servants across Europe. We positively welcome experience, strength and hope from members and trusted servants across the world.
European Groups can send voting representatives to our monthly telephone meetings. New ideas and approaches are welcome. Groups can learn what is happening elsewhere in our region and in the service structure across the world. Please share your knowledge and experience with us too. We have one face to face meeting each year at an annual convention in Europe. The convention enables debtors to come together and exchange their experience strength and hope in recovery over a long weekend in the spring or summer each year. The convention’s main aim is to provide an inexpensive and helpful respite for the newcomer and longer term member. Our ERI meeting takes place during the weekend and is open to all members. We have an agenda which gives time for sharing from countries new in the service structure.
In Europe, translation is always an area of service we need. We support translation work with what practical help we can. We abide by the WSO procedure for translation.
We aim to participate in the general service structure of D.A. and eventually send one Intergroup Service Representative (ISR) to the World Service Conference (WSC). The ISR serves as the link between the Intergroup, the WSC, and the General Service Board and GSO. The ISR will carry the opinion of our Intergroup on world service matters to the Conference and share the results of the Conference deliberations with the ISRs from all over Europe.
These are our visions for 2017
- Sponsor and help co-ordinate an Annual Convention
- Become Information & Communication ‘hub’ for the suffering debtor in Europe and worldwide
- Provide information and listings of European meetings
- Develop multi-lingual literature
- Maintain contact with other WSC International Committee and Intergroups and Regional Intergroups (e.g. Asia)
- Send an ISR to the World Service Conference
